The saying goes that home is where the heart is. How’s your heart? Is it too full? Are there things spilling out of places that shouldn’t be? I’m not talking about a white glove standard of cleanliness.
Your home should serve as a place of refuge and comfort—even if chaos lurks around sometimes. When the chaos comes, you’ll need to find sanctuary someplace in your house, anyway.
What I like most about our place is that it is cozy and filled with the girls’ artwork and inexpensive treasures that I won’t miss if they are broken. I don’t fuss over the little things, but instead, focus on keeping our house functional and safe for Juliana to navigate.
When home is not home
There really is no place like home and sometimes we don’t realize this until that place of comfort is missing.
This past month has been a big trial for our family as we were displaced due to water damage. Remember that chaos I just mentioned? It started here. And then it grew when we had to leave our house for water damage, mold remediation, and repair.
But you know what–our family forged on with business as usual, even from an Airbnb. With favorite toys and comforts of home, our lives were not too disrupted. I simply picked up our “heart” and took it with us.
Still Learning, Still Bending
Home is always my refuge. This month, I learned that I can still manage okay with the “essence” of home even when I am not in my house. While none of this adventure has been fun for our family, it has taught me another lesson in change and the importance of allowing myself to bend with the circumstances of life.
If you’re still working to accept those hiccups that come, give yourself a 66-day challenge. It only takes about 66 days to change a habit.
How’s your home right now? How’s your view of change? Is your bend flexible enough to withstand the change that comes?
