I have a new appreciation for the bandana bib.
In a special need’s life, there are some things that are just necessities. When Juliana’s reflux is in high gear, that means she needs a bib—like all the time.
But let’s face it. It’s hard to go around looking cute with a big piece of plastic around your neck. She’s a cute girl, and she deserves to look cute.
Besides that, Juliana’s little plastic bibs and cutesy toddler bibs are becoming too small. That led me to search around to find a better alternative.
I happened to stumble upon a post on Love That Max (one of my favorite blogs) in which the mom talks about the great results she’s had with a bandana bib.
It’s just what it sounds like, a bib made in the shape of a bandana folded in half. I hiked over to Etsy to find it. The bib is great, but the price tag doesn’t fit my budget.
I need a lot of these. So, super, sewing mommy kicks into high gear. I hunted down a similar pattern on Pinterest, and did a few alterations. You can find the tutorial on the bib pattern that I created here.
Originally, my goal was to make a bandana bib for practically every outfit that Juliana owns.
Really?
That is not realistic. I chase two toddlers around each day. There are more important things to get to than bandana bibs. I’ve made two so far and that’s good enough for now.
When it’s time for her to head back to school, I’ll pull out the sewing machine and crank out a few more. This way she’ll have a selection of bibs to coordinate with most of her clothes.
That’s a better plan and my attempt to handle the things that are most important first.
We can’t all be style divas like Juliana and rock an array of bandana bibs in crafty colors. She may not care that her bib coordinates with her outfit, but as her mom, it matters to me.
She’s my beautiful little angel and I don’t want anything–like a messy, old plastic bib getting in the way of that.
She looks so cute! I am glad that you found a pattern to make the bandana bibs!
Thanks Ashlie,
I wish I had more time to make a whole batch of them. They are super easy. I just have to make time to do it. The best part is that she keeps them on; unlike the others that she will snatch off. It’s a win-win all around.
Do they snap in the back or velcro? Or are they a pull-over?
These have Velcro because I ran out of snaps. I like snaps better because the Velcro gives out. The next round will have snaps. She is wearing her green one today with a cute little summer top and there is no way it looks like a bib. It looks like a light scarf. So glad I found these!
Sabrina, You are just great! Awesome! The girls are getting so big. I love the big girl haircut on Julianna. Miss you guys. Paula
OOPs- fast fingers put two n’s in Juliana- Sorry
No worries there at all. I’m so glad you dropped by and hope you’ll check in again soon.
Thanks Paula,
Isn’t she just the little diva! They are growing so fast. We miss you too and we should plan for you to just come by when you are not too busy.
The bandana bib is great for growing kids, its comfy to wear around the neck because its made of fabric.
I agree. We are getting some good wear out of these and I am overdo to make some more. Juliana doesn’t seem to mind them at all. Thanks so much for chiming in and stopping by Angela.
